It was heard on the subway just the other day: "A Record Riot? What on earth is a Record Riot?"
Well,
you've come to the right place. This is indeed the home of Record Riots
LLC, the folks who bring you the Brooklyn Record Riot and the
"legendary" Cromwell Record Riot. We can help you with all those
irrational vinyl cravings. We have recently added a New Haven RR to the
schedule, and are looking to host more shows in different locations. As Goldmine magazine crows, "Record Riots are popping up all over the place!"
As
you probably know, vinyl has made a serious comeback in the last ten
years. While compact disc sales have fallen off, records seems to be
pesky and unrelenting. Most new bands issue their music on CD and
vinyl. The major labels have caught on, re-releasing everything from
Jimi Hendrix to Gordon Lightfoot. The internet is swamped with vinyl
sites, and the mass media has piled on with publicity about the value
of records. Plus hiphop and sampling has added to the fury, and the art
of DJing has brought massive youth to the movement. Records are not
just an old man's game anymore, everyone seems to be involved. And it
can be albums, 45s, 12" singles, rock, soul, jazz, disco, whatever.
It's a big ole world of vinyl out there and we have taken on the task
of bringing it to you on a silver platter.
What
makes a Record Riot different than any other record show? Of course you
can make the argument that a "record show is a record show" (something
from Plato perhaps?), but nothing is further from the truth. I mean, no
one would say that "pizza is pizza" (certainly not in New Haven or
Brooklyn). There is a formula to a successful record show: a
well-positioned and spacious venue, accomplished and varied dealers,
non-stop promotion of the event, a certain unshakable attitude. We take
this enterprise seriously because our name is on it, even though
neither one of us have the first name "Record" or the last name "Riot."
We always do what's best for the customer and the dealer, creating an
environment that makes for a great exchange of information and music.
We learn from our mistakes and from other people. We are approachable.
And we are in this for the long-haul, with other Record Riots yet to be
announced. Thanks for your interest and welcome to our world of Record
Riots!!!
